Been managing projects for 4 years without certification and honestly doing fine. My director keeps hinting I should get my PMP but I'm not convinced it'll change anything about how I work. $600 exam fee plus study time, is anyone actually getting value from the PMP these days or is it just checkbox HR stuff?

Honestly, PMP's mostly a checkbox unless you're job hunting or trying to break into government/big corp work. If you're already performing well, the cert won't magically make you better at the job. Are you happy where you are or looking to move? changes the math completely on whether it's worth the hassle for you

Depends on your industry and what you want down the line, moving companies or wanting to work at bigger orgs, you'll see PMP opens doors just because HR filters for it and internal promotions usually doesn't matter as much if people know you can deliver,
