project online vs web for resource mgmt

Just stepped into a PMO role at a nonprofit and need to pick between Project Online and Project for the Web. Online has the depth for resource management but feels dated and heavy. Web is easier and ties into Teams, but the resource tools aren't as strong unless you add extras. Anyone here moved from Online to Web recently? Did resource management take a hit, or does Web cover the essentials well enough in 2025?
 
Project for the Web is way lighter and the Teams integration is great, but yeah, resource management isn't as deep as Project Online. If your org leans hard on detailed resource planning, you'll probably feel the gap

well, Project Online is a legacy system for a legacy PMO. If your nonprofit prioritizes cross functional collaboration, quick training, and having your project data visible directly in Teams, Project for the Web is the way to go, hands down.
Yes, dedicated RM takes a hit. It lacks the complex capacity planning and heatmaps of Online.
But in 2025, PftW's ability to easily integrate with Power Automate and Power BI for reporting means you can usually build the essential RM reports you need, far faster than you can get people to actually use the heavy RM tools in Online
Focus on adoption first, you can always build out RM reporting later

yeah, we made the switch. If your PMO needs minute by minute forecasting and multi level resource leveling across 50+ projects, stick with Online. But if you need simple PPM, easy WBS creation, and maximum team adoption, Web is the winner in 2025. The M365 integration is a lifesaver

in 2025, a move from Project Online to Project for the Web would involve transitioning to the new Microsoft Planner, as Project for the Web is retiring in August 2025
while the new Planner (formerly Project for the Web) is a modern, integrated solution that excels in usability and Teams integration, it offers a less mature resource management toolset compared to the robust, albeit dated, Project Online
