PMP and certifications is overkill the PM work?

I've had a great, well paying career in Project Management without a PMP, and honestly, I think the certifications is overkill.

I think PMBOK is a decent reference for process, the best PMs focus on the human side, like soft skills, managing stress, empathy, and team connection. These are the skills that lead to successful projects and better mental health for everyone.

The future value of a PM lies in managing the chaos and the people. Our training should shift to focus on those essential human and social skills.
What are your thoughts? Am I being delusional, or is focusing on soft skills the real way to future proof a PM career?

nah, I don't think you're delusional. The emphasis on soft skills as the real way to future proof a PM career is a widely held view among project management professionals and thought leaders
The PMP certification may open some doors or satisfy specific HR requirements, but the core of successful project management remains the ability to lead, empathize, and manage people effectively

Not delusional at all @99moonpie. Soft skills are what separate good PMs from great ones. Certifications like PMP can help with credentials or certain job requirements, but managing people, navigating stress, and fostering team collaboration are the skills that really make projects succeed long term.
