is ai in pm overpromising again?

Every few years we hear about "the next big thing" in project management. Now it's AI and AR. Sure, AI crunches data faster, and AR can make a slick demo, but do these really change the day-to-day grind of running projects? Risk still comes down to humans making trade-offs, and half the time "real-time insights" just mean more alerts and noise. I'm not dismissing it outright... maybe in complex industries (construction, aerospace, etc.) there's a clear payoff. But for most orgs, is this really game-changing, or just another set of expensive tools that consultants will push while managers still fight the same old battles?

Mostly hype for regular teams. AI and AR help in huge, complex projects, but day-to-day it's just extra tools and alerts. Real progress still depends on human judgment and trade-offs

AI can reduce rework when paired with historical risk data and change logs, but only if the organization has clean inputs and a culture that trusts predictive flags. Have you seen any AI tools that actually influenced a go/no-go call or just added another layer of reporting?
