Comparing AI to the Internet

I’ve seen a lot of commentary about how AI is going to be bigger than the Internet, especially in the context of how it will reshape industries and workflows. Personally, I think that comparison misses the mark. The Internet fundamentally changed how we access and share information, it rewired communication, markets, and collaboration from the ground up. AI, on the other hand, feels more like a layer that’s being added on top of what the Internet made possible. It’s powerful, no doubt, but it’s evolving in a very different way.
In project management, for example, AI tools can automate parts of scheduling, risk analysis, and reporting, but they’re not creating a new infrastructure the way the Internet did. They’re optimizing within the systems we already use

hi @Rob dani I totally agree with the distinction between infrastructure and optimization. The Internet gave us the highway, AI is giving us self driving cars and GPS systems to run on it. It’s an acceleration, not a foundation shift.

You know the internet's early years didn't immediately reveal its full scope either. People initially saw it as a better fax machine or library. AI might be in a similar nascent phase where we're still thinking inside existing frameworks and the real shift could come if AI starts enabling fundamentally new workflows we haven't imagined yet, rather than just optimizing current ones. But you're right that so far too, it's working within the architecture the Internet built, not replacing it
