I've been hearing a lot about the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the volunteer programs. It sounds like a great way to get involved, build my network, and maybe even get some PDUs.

I'm a little unsure about the process, though. I'd love to get some guidance on how to actually join. Is there a specific website or a portal you have to go through to apply?
I'm also wondering who this program is for. Do you have to be a certified PMP or have a certain level of experience to participate?
I'm hoping there are opportunities for everyone, regardless of their background. I've heard about working with local chapters, but I'm curious to know what other kinds of work volunteers do. Any tips or advice on getting started would be a huge help.

You can start by logging into PMI’s site and checking out the Volunteer Engagement Platform, which lists open roles across chapters and global teams. You don’t need to be PMP certified, and there are entry-level options for students and early-career professionals. Are you already a PMI member or still thinking about joining?

yes! @blood0range it's pretty simple. just go to the VEP and search by your local city. If you don't see the perfect role, message the local chapter President or Volunteer Director directly.
They are always looking for help and will often create a role for someone who shows enthusiasm. Being a PMI member makes the application process smoother, but it's not a hard requirement for all roles!

Great to hear you're looking to get involved! Just to add to what has been already said, the program is truly for everyone so you don't need a PMP to start! @FriedClamz suggestion about contacting the local Chapter President or Volunteer Director is great. Besides working with local chapters on events or communications, other roles include helping with global standards development or exam writing. Show enthusiasm and they will often find or even create a position just for you!
