My manager’s PMP role in a hybrid agile setup

At my job in Denver, our manager is a PMP and leads a hybrid team that mixes agile sprints with fixed milestones. The developers self-organize during sprints, but she still handles budgeting, reporting, and cross-team coordination. She mentioned that her PMP background helps her maintain the big picture in view, even when she's not directly assigning tasks. I'm new to project management and trying to understand how PMP skills translate when teams don't follow waterfall. Is this type of hybrid model common, or are most companies transitioning to a fully agile approach now?

Lots of teams use a mix like this and I think it's pretty normal. PMP skills still help a lot, even with agile, because they keep things like budget, goals, and team updates on track. It's more about how you think than which method you use.

In your experience, what's an effective way for a project manager to handle stakeholder reporting when the development team's daily work is organized in agile sprints? I also wanted to ask if you find specific PMP knowledge areas, such as risk management, are consistently valuable even when a team isn't following a waterfall method.
